Multi Skilled Maintenance Electrician

The Materials Processing Institute is an internationally renowned innovation and technology centre for the steel, metals and materials industries.

The Institute works in the fields of advanced materials, low carbon energy and the circular economy, undertaking industrial research and consultancy services. This includes developing and commercialising new technologies, processes and materials. Operating out of its campus in Middlesbrough, the Institute has a strong international client base in the steel sector and works with the advanced materials industry nationally. A not-for-profit organisation, the Institute exists to support industry and so invests all surplus income in developing its staff and capability over the long term. With a strong societal and ethical mission, the Institute strongly supports its local community, providing a range of services for the start-up and growth of SMEs in the Tees Valley region.

Having experienced a period of strong and sustained growth, the Institute is seeking to recruit a multi skilled Electrician as follows;

The Role:

Working as part of a small and highly flexible maintenance department, the role will be to support the manufacturing plant, and the wider infrastructure of the general buildings and office areas.

The role requires a great deal of flexibility and will involve both electrical and mechanical duties to be performed

Typical duties will involve:

  • Reactive maintenance
  • Planned maintenance
  • Project and installation work

Required electrical experience / qualifications

  • City and Guilds electrical qualification 17th Edition (of equivalent)
  • Installation and diagnostics of LV systems (single and three phase)
  • AC / DC drives

Optional Electrical experience preferred but not essential

  • Diagnostic skills HV systems. In particular EIS5.
  • PLC’s

Required Mechanical Experience

  • Basic fitting experience (pumps / bearings etc)
  • Pneumatics (solenoid and valve changes)

Optional Mechanical Experience preferred but not essential

  • Pneumatics (solenoid and valve changes)
  • Hydraulics (solenoid and valve changes)
  • Fabrication and welding

Personnel skills

  • Excellent communication skills, highly organised and able to work as part of a flexible wider team
  • Excellent approach to health and safety standards and procedures
  • Computer literate
