For all roles previous experience in the steel, metals, or processing sector would be an advantage.  The Institute operates nationally and internationally, so some element of UK and overseas travel is to be expected.  Candidates will be required to demonstrate that they are innovative, self-reliant, have a focus on delivery of results and understand how to work collectively to achieve the best outcome.

The Institute works in the fields of advanced materials, low carbon energy and the circular economy, undertaking industrial research and consultancy services.  This includes developing and commercialising new technologies, processes and materials.  Operating out its campus in Middlesbrough, the Institute has a strong international client base in the steel sector and works with the advanced materials industry nationally.  A not-for-profit organisation, the Institute exists to support industry and so invests all surplus income in developing its staff and capability over the long term.  With a strong societal and ethical mission, the Institute strongly supports its local community, providing a range of services for the start-up and growth of SMEs in the Tees Valley region.
