New Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy

The Materials Processing Institute has developed its Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy to coincide with World Mental Health Day on Sunday 10th October.

World Mental Health Day is an international day to raise awareness, educate and to advocate against the stigma that can be attached, and be a barrier to, raising mental health and wellbeing concerns.

The Institute’s new Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy has been developed by a cross functional team to create fit for purpose procedures and helpful sources of information to support and guide employees through the Institute’s vision and strategy on supporting colleagues who, for whatever, reason, may be affected by mental health issues, and support also those that are concerned for others.

It is recognised that organisations that take steps to promote positive mental health will experience benefits such as a stronger and healthier workforce, improved attendance records and higher levels of engagement.

As part of the Institute's process support Mental Health and Wellbeing at work, a series of drop-in sessions have been run to encourage ideas, and these are now being considered to support this initiative and create lasting positive outcomes. The Institute will also be running employee events to help increase awareness of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace and a number of volunteers are planning to become Mental Health First Aiders to proactively support positive mental health and provide support, advice and guidance to those who need it.
