Valorisation and dissemination of RFCS projects in steel surface quality

Valorisation and dissemination of RFCS projects in steel surface quality

Project Partners

A collaborative project funded by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS).

  • Rina Consulting – Centro Sviluppo Materiali Spa (Project Coordinator)
  • BFI, Germany
  • Materials Processing Institute, United Kingdom
  • Sidenor I+D, Spain
  • SWERIM, Sweden

Project Objectives & Activities

The project objectives were:

  • To review and analyse knowledge generated about the formation of cracks during continuous casting of steel carried out in the last 25 years.
  • To develop a roadmap for future research activities and priorities.
  • To review technology developments outside the RFCS portfolio.

Project Outcomes

This knowledge was used for dissemination activities and the generation of a proposed roadmap for future research in the reduction of steel cracking during casting.

  • A state of the art was developed and published.
  • Research was shared via online technical events and presentations. Events videos are available on the VALCRA website.
  • A LinkedIn page was created to promote the dissemination activities and encourage discussion.
  • Events were held to discuss the future research requirements which were added to the roadmap.

VALCRA was targeted at a specific topic of interest and benefited from the involvement of expert organisations which resulted in detailed discussions that potentially will lead to a more coordinated and targeted research plan for the future.
