Electric Arc Furnace – Off-gas Analysis

Portable Mass Spectrometer – This equipment is used to analyse the exact composition of gases resulting from industrial processes. It is portable meaning it can be transported and set-up for use at client premises.

REQUIREMENT

A method to analyse off-gases from the electric arc furnace (EAF) in our Green Steel Centre was required to help optimise the EAF process and reduce emissions.

PROJECT ACTIVITES

We connected the Portable Mass Spectrometer to the EAF in a safe and effective manner. It was calibrated to required standards.

OUTCOME

A full set of data was generated and analysed to identify the off-gas wastes from the EAF. By analysing these off-gases, we were able to optimise the processes in the EAF and reduce emissions.

This project resulted in new data that gave us a better understanding of the EAF’s off-gases content. Next steps will be to carry out additional process off-gases analysis to further reduce emissions and optimise the EAF processes.
