Meeting the Challenge of the 4th Industrial Revolution

Chris McDonald was the Principal Guest and Speaker at the Sheffield Metallurgical and Engineering Association Annual Dinner on Friday 9th November, held at The Cutlers’ Hall in Sheffield.

The Sheffield Metallurgical and Engineering Association (SMEA) has its origins going back to 1894 with the formation of the Sheffield Society of Engineers and Metallurgists. SMEA is the voice of the materials community in South Yorkshire, it is affiliated to IOM3 and has one of the largest regional memberships in IOM3. The Association has an extensive programme of activities to keep its members abreast of new innovations in the materials world. It actively encourages the development of young materials scientists and it promotes and assists local science-based trusts and museums to ensure the history of science in the Sheffield region is developed.

The title of Chris’s speech was:

Meeting the Challenge of the 4th Industrial Revolution

In the speech Chris considers both the tremendous upheaval in business, industry and society this revolution is causing, but equally the great opportunity it is creating to transform and improve lives for the better.
