UK Steel Benefits from the Institute’s Steel Industry Expertise

The Materials Processing Institute recently delivered a bespoke two-day “Introduction to Steelmaking & Processing” training course to the UK Steel team at their offices in London.

The Institute has been delivering Steel Industry Training Courses for many years covering a wide range of topics including:

Steelmaking

Continuous Casting

Ironmaking

Cokemaking

Metallurgy

Reheating

The UK Steel team were interested in a general course to increase their overall knowledge and the Institute was able to create a bespoke course to meet this requirement.

The course was delivered by David Egner, a trained management coach with six-sigma black belt training. David has extensive experience of technology management in the steel industry where he has managed research and development programmes to deliver new product developments, process enhancements and capital expenditure.

David commented, “The challenge was to deliver a training programme to an audience with wide-ranging variations of prior knowledge while also making the course meaningful and beneficial to all the participants; to do this, rather than use one of our “Off-the-Shelf” courses, we decided to create a specific course to meet the requirements of UK Steel”.

The course covered many areas within the steelmaking process including ironmaking, steelmaking, casting, the rolling process, metallurgy, testing and failure analysis.

The entire team at UK Steel participated on the course and Gareth Stace, Director General, commented afterwards; "Considering that as a team, we have widely different levels of steel sector knowledge, it is certain that we all came out of the sessions with that knowledge significantly enhanced. The course content and delivery were spot on”.
