British Steel sale to Ataer Holdings in doubt

Following reports that the sale of British Steel to Ataer Holdings is in doubt, in an interview on BBC Radio Tees, Chris McDonald expressed concern for the British Steel workforce and the communities around the plants at Scunthorpe, Skinningrove and on Teesside; making the case that a future must be found as the steel industry is vital to both the local and UK economy.

Reports in the press confirm that David Chapman, the official receiver who is overseeing the sale has said that while talks with Ataer were continuing, “discussions with other parties who have expressed continued and renewed interest in acquiring the whole of British Steel business will now be possible”.

Also reported, The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has said: “This government remains completely committed to getting a good solution for British Steel’s valued employees at Scunthorpe, Skinningrove and on Teesside. The sales process is ongoing and we will continue to work with the official receiver as they seek to progress a sale.”
