Chief Executive of the Cast Metals Federation, to discuss transition to net zero at the 7th Postgraduate Research Symposium on Ferrous Metallurgy

Dr Pam Murrell FICME, Chief Executive of the Cast Metals Federation, will be giving the Keynote Speech at the 7th Postgraduate Research Symposium on Ferrous Metallurgy on 27th February at Armourers Hall, London.

PRESENTATION -

Challenges and opportunities for the UK Castings Industry – can castings be part of the solution for the transition to net zero?”

The Cast Metals Federation is the Trade Association for the UK casting industry. The Federation represents and supports its members made up from UK foundries and suppliers to the industry.

Dr Murrell will look at the challenges and opportunities for the UK castings industry exploring how castings and the wider UK metal sector can be part of the solution for the transition to net zero. She will provide an overview of the industry, showcasing some of the newer developments and innovations being adopted by foundries and suppliers, including the use of additive manufacturing techniques, simulation, resource efficiency and process optimisation.

Dr Murrell is a Fellow of the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers, ICME, a Board member of the European Investment Casters’ Federation, a Trustee of the Foundry Training Trust, and Chair of the ISO Technical Committee for Cast Irons. She is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Founders, chairing their Industry Committee. She completed a PhD on Fracture and Fatigue at Cranfield University following a BSc Hons Degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Cardiff University.

The Postgraduate Research Symposium on Ferrous Metallurgy is organised by the Materials Processing Institute and supported by the Armourers & Brasiers’ Company and the Iron & Steel Society of IOM3. This symposium gives universities, researchers, and businesses the opportunity to find out about the latest thinking in ferrous metallurgy with PhD and EngDoc students showcasing their research.
