Net-Zero Energy Intensive Industries Summit
Mark Allan and Dr Hichem Hakka will be a presenting at the Net-Zero Energy Intensive Industries Summit: Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation taking place in Berlin, Germany on 6th-7th May.
Presentation Title: All the Way
This presentation will look at ways in which next generation low emission technologies and processes can overcome the final technical hurdles and enter commercial production, through focused pilot scale innovation facilities, with examples from the UK’s Materials Processing Institute.
This summit brings together the metals, glass, chemical, pulp and paper, and cement sectors, alongside utility companies, energy providers, and infrastructure enablers. The summit will focus on topics driving decarbonisation, including the roadmap to carbon zero, operationalising sustainability, and sustainable CAPEX management. Sessions will explore the role of AI, IoT, and automation in achieving energy efficiency, as well as advancements in temperature monitoring systems, heat recovery projects, and carbon data management. Additional highlights include insights into carbon life cycle assessments, cutting-edge carbon capture and utilization technologies, and strategies for the electrification of industrial processes.
Mark Allan leads the Materials Processing Institute’s Green Steel Centre, which works internationally to develop technologies, materials and processes to decarbonise iron and steel. His team recently delivered the Primary Steelmaking Options Review for the UK’s emerging Steel Strategy, and led the UK’s first whole supply chain Green Steel Transition Forum.
Dr Hichem Hakka leads the Energy and Process Decarbonisation Group at the Materials Processing Institute, focused on delivering industrial-scale low-carbon solutions—including hydrogen integration, carbon capture and utilization, electrification, and advanced process optimisation.
