Dramatic Carbon Offset Impact from Re-use of Redundant Computers
Did you know that it is really easy to have “old” or “now redundant” IT equipment collected, refurbished and distributed to benefit local communities. That is exactly what we have recently done. We gave 24 old computers and 16 monitors to furbd, who working with The Hope Foundation, refurbished the equipment and distributed it throughout the Tees Valley to community groups and those who are left disadvantaged.
It is great for us to know that each device we gave has now been given a second life, and at the same time we are delivering on our social responsibility objectives, reducing e-waste and protecting the environment, while also giving communities access to equipment they simply would not otherwise get.
CARBON OFFSET IMPACT
We didn't realise quite how significant the donating these redundant computers and monitors would be for Carbon Offset Impact. We have just received our certificate to show what this donation equates to:
KEY METRICS
CO2e Saved: 24.2 tonnes
E-Waste Prevented: 205kg
Lives Impacted: 24 beneficiaries
ENVIRONMENTAL EQUIVALENTS
59,900 miles driven by car
15 return flights from London to New York
Amazing what the impact can be on the environment and local community by donating a small quantity e-waste to be of re-purposed and re-used.
