MPI delivers innovation to support for the steel and metals sector, and we will be showcasing our capabilities and services at the UK Metals Expo in September. We are on Stand F30.
As steelmaking transitions to more electric melting there is also the immediate challenge of maximising the effectiveness and the breadth of steel grades coming to market from today’s greenest mainstream production route - Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking, and of using the latest advances in technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimise scrap recycling and the re-use of by-products.
Our Green Steel Centre works with the steel industry to develop and perfect technologies, materials and processes to decarbonise production and accelerate the emergence of a sustainable, profitable Green Steel economy.
We offer unique and integrated capabilities including a pilot EAF plant and world-class research and training facilities to support the delivery of de-risked, low carbon footprint, optimised EAF steelmaking which will maximise financial returns and minimise environmental emissions.
We support metals innovation through materials development and process improvements, delivered by project teams utilising state-of-the-art equipment, laboratories, workshops, demonstration, scale-up and production facilities.
As a global research, development and innovation centre our R&D focused on:
• Development of advanced materials
• Achieving industrial decarbonisation
• Deploying new digital technologies
• Reducing waste and reusing materials through a circular economy
We provide a range of technology and R&D based services and consultancy. Scientists, engineers and project teams apply their expertise to progress innovation, develop and improve materials and processes, and commercialise technologies.
We also work across the Foundation Industries as part of the Foundation Industries Sustainability Consortium (FISC) to support the decarbonisation and transformation of these essential industries.
