Materials Processing Institute to present at international industry conference

The Materials Processing Institute's work is to be showcased on the international stage when three of its papers are presented at the 9th European Continuous Casting Conference (ECCC 2017).

The ECCC 2017 Conference takes place at the Austria Center, in Vienna, from June 26th - 29th

Senior scientists and researchers from the Materials Processing Institute have authored and contributed to a series of papers, selected for presentation at the conference.

The titles of these papers are:

  • 'New insights into the effect of steel chemistry and caster design on micro alloying precipitation and surface quality of low carbon boron steels'
  • 'Slab section thickness, precipitation and off-corner cracking in micro alloyed plate steel'
  • 'Novel techniques for controlling heat transfer in the mould-strand gap'

Presenting these papers will be:

  • Dr Bridget Stewart, Principal Scientist
  • Dr Tu Tran, Senior Researcher
  • Michael McDonald, Senior Researcher
  • Adam Hunt, Researcher

ECCC 2017 is a unique forum for the European continuous casting community, which focuses on new and future developments of the continuous casting process, as well as addresses steel metallurgical issues.

Chris McDonald, CEO of the Materials Processing Institute, said: "The ECCC is a prestigious industry event and one that will be in the diaries of top professionals with an interest in the steel and metallurgy sectors. It is welcome news that the Institute and our staff have been recognised for their work and contributions, who rightfully deserve to be showcased internationally.

"The conference will also provide the perfect opportunity for colleagues in the sector to meet and learn about emerging developments within the steel industry, benefitting processes, research and development, as well as product development."

The Materials Processing Institute will also be exhibiting at this ECCC2017 which also combines with the European Steel Technology and Application Days (ESTAD 2017).
